Bill Goffrier may be best known as the guitarist and songwriter for the legendary art punk band The Embarrassment. However, he also founded the seminal Boston band Big Dipper, who made a pretty serious splash in the indie rock scene of the late 1980s. Through the intervening years, Bill has built a career as a fine art painter, focusing his brush on historic buildings and locales, most recently in Wichita, Kansas. Our conversation follows his art and his music and how they've intertwined.

Mike Coykendall is a Portland-based musician and producer with deep Kansas roots. His music has swerved in and out of many genres through his bands Klyde Konnor and the Old Joe Clarks and by collaborating with many other artists, including a fruitful partnership with M. Ward. Nan Renbarger IS Lawrence, Kansas. As an artist and businesswoman, she's been making LFK her home since 1968. My guest is Steve Michener. Steve doesn't consider himself an artist, however he was the bass player and songwriter for three iconic Boston bands, Volcano Suns, Dumptruck, and Big Dipper. Then, he started a winery with his wife, Denise, and has become a prolific and talented writer. We talk about his most recent project, Steve's Random Record Collection Countdown, where he writes about nearly every vinyl record he owns. His series is decidedly less about the music or artist, but rather musings about Steve's life and experiences.

My guest, once again, is Andy Morton. We continue our discussion, picking up with our final album Girls of the Big 12. We talk about many of the bands we played with over the years, including Cher UK and The Bubble Boys. We also talk about how we decided to end the band and what folks can expect at the reunion show.

My guest is Mike McCoy, founder of the once ubiquitous, lubriciously conspicuous, commandingly provocative and always entertaining Cher UK -- And that’s just one of the many bands he’s been in. There was The American People, The Service Industry, The Black Rabbits, Wood Roses and most recently, Mike McCoy’s Trompe l'oeil.
He was also the co-founder of the moveable musical feast, North vs South, which brought together an eclectic mix of bands and artists from Kansas City, Lawrence, Minneapolis and Austin.
Danger Bob played with Cher UK countless times over the years, including our first ever show in Kansas City when we opened for them at the legendary Davey’s Uptown Rambler’s Club.
Not surprisingly, we had a wide ranging conversation that got into a bit of Kansas City history, Dadaism, and of course music and songwriting.

A special episode – a double feature! First, I’ll be talking with my friend Allan Murin. For lack of a better word, Allan was Danger Bob’s roadie. But really, he was much more than that. Sure he schlepped gear, helped with our merch, and made sure Andy had his Jack and Coke and I my Rolling Rock, but he was also an affable companion to all of us -- always there when you needed a laugh or diversion.
Later in the podcast, I’ll be talking with Lisa McKenzie. Lisa was the drummer for Cher UK from 1992 to around 1995. She then embarked on a music career that involved about every genre you can imagine – jazz, swing, southern rock, punk, you name it. She still drums for several bands and can be seen behind the kit almost every night of the week in Kansas City.
